John Oliver, 'Last Week Tonight'

Above is a video of John Oliver's 'last week tonight' episode. He examines journalism and how its changed and says we are to blame. Oliver dedicates a whole episode of his HBO show to analysing the decreasing financial state of journalism.

Tabloid and Broadsheet newspapers.

Broadsheet   Tabloid A tabloid newspaper tends to have more colour and pictures which make it more noticeable to the potential buyer it also tends to have larger headlines and pictures. it is more spread out with the lay out of the front page. The adverts on a tabloid are ore modernised to fit in with the lay out and design of the newspaper. Where as a broadsheet newspaper have more information and less pictures, its more condensed in order to get more information on it. The adverts on them often are irrelevant to the news on the inside and have less to do with the headlines.

Stuart Hall- Reception theory

Stuart Hall's reception theory was created in 1980. Representation- Newspapers (Mr Buckmaster)

In the lesson we looked at how newspaper headlines and articles represent women.  We looked at the sun newspaper to look at gender representation and saw how it is bias towards women and how they represent them. The video below consists of people taking part in an experiment and collecting pictures of both men and women throughout a six month period, sticking them on a wall and viewing the end result. Questions about the video: How accurate is the video? How old is the experiment? Was there any particular hate towards the Sun from the people who carried out the experiment and using the video to give it a bad representation? My opinion: My opinion on the video is that although it worked to open my eyes it is outdated and therefore mean that it has changed in the three years since the experiment .
