Representation- Newspapers (Mr Buckmaster)

In the lesson we looked at how newspaper headlines and articles represent women.
We looked at the sun newspaper to look at gender representation and saw how it is bias towards women and how they represent them.

The video below consists of people taking part in an experiment and collecting pictures of both men and women throughout a six month period, sticking them on a wall and viewing the end result.

Questions about the video:

  • How accurate is the video?
  • How old is the experiment?
  • Was there any particular hate towards the Sun from the people who carried out the experiment and using the video to give it a bad representation?

My opinion:

My opinion on the video is that although it worked to open my eyes it is outdated and therefore mean that it has changed in the three years since the experiment. The experiment represents how different genders are represented in the sun and the impact it would have on society and how it affects women to be presented like that in society.
